Question
How does the "Zerostat" gun work? - Anonymous, Austin, TX
Answer
The "Zerostat" gun works by mechanically stressing (straining) a crystal material causing charge separation and inducing a large potential (2 kV to 5 kV) between to wire points (separated by about 2 mm) that are connected to either end of the crystal. The crystal is also elastic (has a memory), so it can be repeatedly distorted to provide many "firings" or discharges with little performance degradation.
