Question
We have no of computers consisting of ESD sensitive ICs we are using vacuum cleaners and compressors to remove dust from mother and daughter boards we found some of computers not working after dusting kindly suggest the right way to clean computer boards. - Nagabhushan, Centre for Electronics, Bangalore, India
Answer
Vacuuming with a standard vacuum may bring into contact with sensitive ESD devices a very large electric field (charged device such as the vacuum hose tip). There are two (2) solutions. One solution is to use an ESD Vacuum. The second solution is to use an ESD compressed air gun to clean off the board, such as an air nozzle hand gun or an air nozzle with foot plate.
