Question Hi, I have recently applied your Statproof floor finishes, cleaners, and strippers. Is there a schedule on how often we should apply these finishes? clean the floors? Do we have to strip it everytime we wax the floors? Please let me know if you have any specs or manufacturers recommendations on the scheduling or maintenance of these floor finishes. All these products have Tech Briefs on the products’ web page that have detail information. A fresh coat can be applied many times to a clean Statfree ESD floor, and stripping should be necessary only infrequently.  See PS-2026, PS-2027, among others which are also listed under Product Technical Information.

As you use, you can determine the appropriate Statfree® Dissipative Floor Finish maintenance schedule for your facility.

Maintenance of Dissipative Floor Finish for many users:

  • with low/moderate traffic the floor will need 1 additional coat every 6 months
  • with higher traffic areas, a 1 coat re-application every 3 months

Our Dissipative Floor Finish offers 3 ESD protective properties. Low charging, charge decay and surface resistance. The low charging and charge decay properties are independent of the surface resistance properties. So if the resistance increases, it will still maintain the low charging and decay static properties.

As the Floor Finish wears the RTT resistance point-to-point, measured in ohms, will increase. Taking this measurement should be a regular part of a company’s ESD control plan compliance verification plan. As the Floor Finish wears, it will come closer to an insulative resistance range. Tracking this over a period of time will allow the users to define a maintenance schedule that will optimize performance while minimizing material and labor costs.

ANSI/ESD S20.20 Table 1 minimum recommended technical requirement for ESD floors is less than 1 x 10E9 ohms. Due to the fact that our Dissipative Floor Finish has superior low charging and charge decay properties, some users have tailored their ESD programs and set the resistance requirement higher for Floor Finish to 10E10 ohms.

Leading companies are starting to become certified to ANSI/ESD S20.20. The first ESD program in the US to be certified to S20.20 uses our Dissipative Floor Finish & uses the following maintenance schedule:

  • when the RTT resistance measures towards the high end of 10E10 ohms, maintenance requested is to clean and re-apply another coat of Dissipative Floor Finish

when the RTT resistance measures 10E11 ohms, manufacturing is discontinue work until maintenance cleans and re-applies another coat of Dissipative Floor Finish
