Question
I am seeking information on vibratory bowl feeding of ESD components. The main component that is at risk is a hall effect sensor that has a class C7 (2000v) ESD rating. - Anonymous
Answer
Below is the response from Ted Dangelmayer of Lucent Technologies: “I have measured significant voltages on vibratory feeders in the past. However, each case is different and this component may be robust. I suggest getting the CDM with stand voltage. The HBM withstand voltage is not meaningful in this case. I also suggest measuring the magnitude of the problem with either the Lucent ESD event detector or a faraday cup. The event detector is probably the best method. The tests would need to be repeated at low humidity. With the data a better decision can be made regarding corrective action.”
