Question
What is my best choice of test equipment for measuring resistance/resistivity of pneumatic chair cylinders and their components? Our seal materials are supposed to be semi-conductive but I have no way of measuring them without sending parts to our parent company in Germany. Do I need a test device that puts out 100 VDC to accurately measure a cylinder or is a standard VOM (9V) sufficient? - Jim Vander Zanden, Grand Rapids, MI
Answer
The ESD Standard ESD STM12.1-1997, Seating, suggest using a megohmeter capable of measuring resistance at both 10 and 100 volts and using 2 five pound electrodes, like our LCD surface resistance/Resistivity test kit. These measurements are made on the chair surfaces and not the cylinder itself.
