Can a wrist strap be used as an ankle strap, as long as it is on the skin? If used this way, will it be as effective? - Sharon K. Beedle, Harris Corp., Quincy, IL

The simple answer is that the wrist strap will still be effective as long as it is grounded via the coil cord. I have two concerns though. The first is that the coiled cord will become a hazard when that operator moves around. Second is that contact with the dry skin of a leg may make it difficult to create that path to ground. ESD lotions can take care of that problem but the coil cord remains a concern. We have custom manufactured ankle strap with snaps for ground cords for other customers.
