Question What is the best way to determine what class facility you need to become? How do I also get copies of MIL-STD-1686? - Anonymous, Longmont, CO,
Answer The MIL-STD-1686 has been superseded by the new ESD Association's ANSI/ESD S20.20 for the Development of an Electrostatic Discharge Control Program.

In order to determine the devices or assemblies used in your processes for ESD Sensitivity you can refer to the following documents:
- QML-19500 Qualified Manufacturers List of Products Qualified Under Military Specification MIL-PRF-19500, General Specification for Semiconductor Device:[Defense Printing Service Detachment Office, Bldg 4D (NPM-DODSSP), 700 Robbins Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19111-5094, 215-697-5164]
- QML-38535 Qualified Manufacturers list of Advanced Microcircuits Qualified Under Military Specification MIL-PRF-38535, General Requirements for Microcircuits Manufacturing: [Defense Printing Service Detachment Office, Bldg 4D (NPM-DODSSP), 700 Robbins Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19111-5094, 215-697-5164]
- RAC VZAP, Electrostatic Discharge Susceptibility Data: [IIT Research Institute, 201 Mill, Rome, NY 13440, Ph. 315-336-2359]
- or Qualified Manufacturers data sheets

In lieu of defining the exact device sensitivities in your facility, you can assume the worst case, Class 0 HBM (Human Body Model) and Class C1 CDM (Charge Device Model) and design accordingly. NOTE: the ANSI/ESD S20.20 is written to protect down to 100 volts HBM and does not condsider the CDM.
