Question
What do you mean by "equipment grounding conductor/auxiliary ground bus"? And, why set it to 1 kilohms? - Anonymous, Singapore
Answer
The third wire (green) in the line cord is used to ground the system to the equipment grounding conductor/auxiliary ground bus. Our monitors also verify that the outlet polarity is correct and that the path to ground is intact by ensuring that the maximum resistance of the green and white wire loop is 1 K ohms. Were the white (neutral) wire to break, the max fault current that will flow through the ground wire would be less than 400 microamps, which complies with UL requirements. This is notwithstanding the fact that the monitor's current drain is less than 15 mA.
