Question Is it possible to charge with static charges on an ordinary poly bag when it picks up from an antistatic floor or a dissipative working surface? Thank you for your answer. If I measured an electric field on this poly bag it is something wrong with the floor? -Anonymous, Bucharest, NON, Romania
Answer Yes, it is possible to charge an ordinary poly bag from either an antistatic floor or a dissipative work surface as the ordinary poly bag is a charge generator. The magnitude of the charge may be greatly reduced, but there may still be a charge on this bag, even when contacting/rubbing itself. An antistatic floor means it won't charge (either itself or other contacting objects) beyond about 250 volts. For the floor to be effective, it should also be dissipative and grounded.
