Question I am currently dealing with numerous 980 nm pump laser failures, and the FMA reports are stating that they are seeing blistering on the front facets of these lasers. Could this be attributed to ESD/EOS? If so, are there any failure analysis reports I could review to get a better grasp on this issue? - Anonymous, Boca Raton, FL
Answer yes, it could be attributed to ESD or EOS failures. To better understand what is causing your failures, I'd need to know more about your laser pumps and how they are electrically and physically hooked up.

You can view micrographs of some examples of Failure Analysis due to ESD and EOS at. We really don't do much with Failure Analysis (FA) here, but I can lead you to some other folks who do this everyday.
